Merseytravel’s Charity of the Year

Each year since 2003 Merseytravel staff have voted for a local charity to support. The chosen charity for 2010 is SUNDOWNS.

SUNDOWNS stands for Supporting, Understanding Needs of Downs Syndrome and supports over 70 families across Merseyside who have a child with Downs Syndrome. The charity aims to support people with Downs Syndrome and their families whilst raising awareness of the positive contribution people with Downs Syndrome make to society.

SUNDOWNS was formed in 2000 after there were five little girls born with Downs Syndrome within six months of each other. The families met up at hospital appointments and struck up a friendship. They decided to begin a support group so that other families need not experience the loneliness and isolation they had felt.

2010 is their 10th anniversary and hopefully Merseytravel staff can make it a year to remember.
